Polycom RealPresence Immersive Studio

Video Collaboration Room

The Polycom RealPresence Immersive Studio is a cutting-edge video collaboration room designed by Pip Tompkin Studio. Inspired by the need to create a seamless collaboration experience for teams in different locations, this innovative design combines technology, comfort, and aesthetics to provide a truly immersive and versatile meeting space.

At the heart of the RealPresence Immersive Studio is its ability to make participants feel like they are in the same room, regardless of their geographic location. The design achieves this by incorporating hidden cameras and other technology, using natural high-end materials, providing comfortable seating and lighting, and utilizing life-size HD screens for viewing remote participants and shared content.

What sets this system apart is its versatility. Participants can move naturally around the room while still being captured full-scale on camera, which is displayed on 84-inch 4K Ultra HD displays. The Polycom 3D Voice technology delivers clear and pinpoint audio directly from the person speaking, ensuring crystal-clear communication. Additionally, the room can accommodate up to 21 people on screen, making it ideal for large collaborative meetings.

The RealPresence Immersive Studio is designed to replace existing conference rooms, offering a seamless transition for organizations. The touch screen interface allows for easy call management, content sharing, and arrangement. Participants can interact with the system intuitively, making collaboration effortless and efficient.

Manufacturing of the RealPresence Immersive Studio takes place as close to the customer as possible. The furniture is manufactured by Steelcase, while the electrical components are manufactured and assembled in various locations including the USA, Japan, Taiwan, and China. The materials used include a steel frame, CNC'd MDF with mahogany or ash veneer panels, laminate table tops with an aluminum power strip, Armstrong Hex acoustic tiles, suspended lights, hanging array microphones, and fire retardant acoustic padding and fabric for the back wall.

The RealPresence Immersive Studio project started in May 2012 and concluded with production in December 2013. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted on organizations with a strong need for collaborative spaces. The aim was to create an environment that promotes creative thinking and comfort, recognizing that hiding technology helps put people at ease and encourages natural behavior.

Despite the challenges of creating a cost-effective solution for telepresence rooms, the RealPresence Immersive Studio successfully addresses the need for simplicity, executive comfort, accessibility, and support for different meeting behaviors and scenarios. The disguised cameras ensure user comfort, making the room inviting for all participants.

With its versatility, advanced technology, and uncompromising design, the RealPresence Immersive Studio is the ultimate international collaborative tool for the future. It has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the Silver A' Design Award in 2014 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category.
